Tell us about your career journey at Optum so far.
I’ve been with Optum for a little over six years now. My first position here was as a nurse reviewer. In 2018, I became a supervisor, then was promoted again to be a manager in 2021. I’ve been able to explore skills I never thought I would be capable of and do things I never thought I could do. I’ve benefitted from courses and programs that helped me improve both my knowledge and my leadership skills.
What would you say are the most rewarding aspects of your work?
I enjoy working with people and helping them achieve their goals. In my current role, not only have I grown so much, but I’ve been able to influence others in a positive way, which is truly rewarding for me. Even when I find myself spending my day working in front of the computer, I know that what I’m doing as part of the clinical team is valuable to the overall improvement of the patient experience.
You mentioned improving the patient experience. Is collaboration a part of that?
We get to see how the health care system works firsthand, so, we’re encouraged to share ideas and share how we can help providers and members easily navigate the system. I’m frequently able to tap into the expertise in my network, reaching out to colleagues in different departments to help resolve issues. I appreciate that everyone here is so willing to help when needed. It’s a pleasure to work with such talented and passionate people.
As one of the largest employers of clinicians in the United States, we recognize the important role clinicians play in the health care system. When you’re a clinician on our team, you’ll have the kind of support that allows you to make an impact, have rewarding career opportunities, and deliver the highest level of care and compassion to patients and providers.
