While we recognize this technology provides us with significant opportunities, it must also be explainable, applied responsibly, and developed using deep technical expertise and ethical frameworks. Through our Responsible AI program, including our AI Review Board and United AI Studio, our proprietary secure AI platform, we identify and address potential risks and opportunities across our applications. These efforts prioritize data privacy and human control and ensure our practices are consistent with applicable laws, regulations and policy requirements.
AI Review Board
A multidisciplinary review board consisting of clinicians, data scientists, business leaders, privacy and security experts, and ethicists reviews AI models to ensure safety, accuracy and fairness.
United AI Studio
We have created a platform to ensure our AI experts are using best practices throughout every stage of building, deploying and managing AI applications. This leads to more uniform performance and reliability, as well as improved security, data privacy and fairness.

UHC and Optum apps include messaging tools, allowing people to get real-time answers to their benefits and pharmacy questions, reducing the need to call a helpline for support.
Advocate Assist
When someone does need to reach out for further assistance, AI provides our call center advocates with a summary of that person’s history and relevant processing guidelines for their plan, allowing them to make faster, more informed recommendations and decisions.
Disease prediction
Catching emerging health risks early can lead to better treatment outcomes, and our disease prediction capabilities can give clinicians more diagnostic and treatment options to consider while providing timely, personalized interventions.
HouseCalls summaries
For providers who are delivering in-home visits, AI summarizes patient histories into one-page overviews and audio narratives, allowing them to begin every visit with a well-informed view of each patient and their needs.
