Optum, the health services and technology business of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH), has secured a position on the highly competitive governmentwide contracting vehicle called Alliant 2, which assists federal agencies in soliciting integrated information technology solutions.

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) recently announced that federal agencies can begin issuing task orders through Alliant 2.

Alliant 2 is a governmentwide acquisition contract (GWAC), with a five-year base period and five-year option, worth up to $50 billion that provides government agencies a platform to solicit IT services and projects from a list of preapproved and highly qualified companies, which includes Optum. Optum, through its federal health services business OptumServe, provides federal government agencies a range of integrated technology solutions, supporting customers' needs with leading-edge and emerging IT solutions anywhere and anytime worldwide.

"Optum is grateful to be recognized by the GSA as one of the industry leaders in providing high-quality innovative health care IT solutions to help government agencies accomplish their missions," said Lt. Gen. (ret) Patty Horoho, CEO of OptumServe. "We look forward to working with federal agencies in improving performance, enhancing the care experience and lowering costs."

From its role in the HealthCare.gov turnaround to assisting the federal government in its health care program integrity efforts, Optum has a long history of providing valuable IT and consulting services for all levels of government. Optum recently aligned several capabilities across UnitedHealth Group under OptumServe to specifically help federal agencies address some of the biggest challenges in health care.
