Academic Programs

Thousands of UHG employees are pursuing academic dreams and attaining advanced degrees.

If you are like many other UHG clinicians, you may have considered going back to school but have been confused by tuition discounts, tuition reimbursement and the many academic opportunities available to support your advanced education.  This information is meant to guide you along the way.

Tuition Reimbursement Policy

Effective Jan. 1, 2023, eligible U.S. employees can now take classes related to any role across UnitedHealth Group—not just their current one. Once approved, you can get reimbursed for courses, tuition costs, textbooks, required software and more, up to $5,250 annually.

uilding new skills is a great way to grow your career and our business. UnitedHealth Group provides assistance in paying education costs for eligible employees who seek to improve their job skills. Employees can complete the Tuition Reimbursement Pre-Approval Application Online Form to support enrollment in outside educational courses through accredited institutions.

Many education expenses for coursework related to roles at UnitedHealth Group may be reimbursed at 100% (up to the annual maximum of $5,250) if the employee meets the criteria outlined in the policy and completes the course with a "C" or better grade or, a "Pass" if a grading scale is not used.

In addition, the Employee Discount site provides a list of tuition discounts at participating institutions. Select "Education" from the categories list in the left navigation of the site to view available offers.

Academic Guide

The Guide to Academic Achievements and Projects is a comprehensive tool designed to assist you in thinking through the many aspects of returning to school such as personal and financial considerations.  It includes resources to address questions you may have about tuition reimbursement and the proper steps to take for reimbursement once you are in school.  It is also designed to address the steps you should take if your program requires you to complete a practicum experience or capstone project.  You will find what you need all in one place!

Scholarly Guide

The Guide to Scholarly Publications and Presentations is an interactive resource meant for those who may have little or no experience with publications or presentations yet desire to do so. There are many stories of success that UHG clinicians could share in formal presentation settings, such as professional conferences and specialty organization meetings. There are also many opportunities to share stories of success in publications such as peer-reviewed journals, professional newsletters or even white papers. While a few examples of publications and presentations are included in the guide, we are interested in adding more. We encourage scholarly activity and we're here to provide assistance.
