Jacqui Jennings | Nurses Week Profile

What are your passions away from work?

“Nursing roles can be very demanding. Therefore, when I’m away from work, my passions relate to revitalizing activities. During these times I tend to focus on self-care and the use of my hands. DIY projects, gardening, or preparing a satisfying meal usually top the list.”

What does a day in your life look like at work?

"As a Sr. Clinical Quality RN, I function as a subject matter expert (SME) for clinical services’ utilization management during commercial business client audits. My work includes the review of UM cases for quality standards with an examination of the documentation of medical services rendered. I collaborate with a team of other SMEs to review and analyze member engagement in preparation for case discussions in client-facing assessments.”

What is the best part of your job?

“The best part of my role involves building trust and relationships within teams throughout the Enterprise. Cooperatively, these structured teams serve the needs of our customers and help to develop solutions to meet their health care needs."

How do you incorporate Quality and Patient Safety into your work?

“Part of my role is to evaluate UM documentation for quality and appropriateness. This review and research can identify inconsistencies. Through clinical partnerships, recommendations and innovative solutions are developed to address quality concerns and deliver better outcomes."

What words would you say to a nurse after a challenging day?

“First, acknowledge their hard work and express gratitude for their determination.  Then I would advise that challenges are inevitable, but they help us to grow and discover how much strength we truly have.”
