What are your passions away from work?
“I love cooking, hiking, traveling and spending time with friends and family.”
What does a day in your life look like at work?
"I wake up, get ready and hit the road. I typically see 7-8 patients each day in the field. I go to many homes all over the east valley in Phoenix, Arizona, so I am making many stops throughout the day! I provide patient care, do documentation, usually make a lab stop or 2 and then head home. I finish paperwork then cook dinner and try to keep the house and family up and running!”
What is the best part of your job?
“The best part of my job is truly getting to know patients I take care of. I have had some of my patients for 9 years, so I know them, their pets, their children and even their extended family. I love being a positive light for them and try to make their day better each time I see them.”
How do you incorporate Quality and Patient Safety into your work?
“Patient safety is priority. I never get too comfortable in my job. I double and sometimes triple check things to make sure everything is crystal clear. If I have a question about something, I do not hesitate to ask. I always go by the rules and policies provided by Optum when providing patient care. I give the patient the time and attention deserved at each visit.”
What words would you say to a nurse after a challenging day?
“I would say our job is hard sometimes, but there is someone out there that always has it harder than you. Keep positive, prioritize health and wellness in your own life and take one day at a time. We have one of the most rewarding careers out there. It’s not always easy, but give it your all, all day and every day. Learn from your mistakes and move forward. Just keep swimming!”
