How does your disability add value at UnitedHealthcare?
Transcript
I have been working with UnitedHealthcare for a year-and-a-half. I have cerebral palsy. I was born with it, and I am just ecstatic and extremely proud to be a part of this company. As far as my clients, a lot of them have a disability or disadvantages as well. I am fully aware of some of the struggles that they have on a daily basis, just getting through life and daily activity. I think I not only understand from a Medicaid and financial standpoint, but I also understand from a physical standpoint because of my disability.

Transcript
I feel like I belong at UHG because of the culture we have for bringing your authentic self to work. I feel like I can bring my unique background, experiences, and ideas to my work and my teammates do the same. We really make an effort to get to know each other on a personal level, which means we can support each other better and also create a team environment that feels good to be a part of. I feel like I'm part of a community at work rather than just an employee.

Why did you choose to pursue your career at Optum?
Transcript
I've been with Optum for 11 years and I still see a bright future here. What keeps me motivated, apart from my wonderful team, is how the organization embraces change and genuinely cares for its people. This is evident when inclusion was added in our core values and employee value proposition of caring, connecting, and growing together. These initiatives truly resonated with me.

Employee resource groups
UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise-wide Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) foster a more inclusive, diverse workplace. ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups that are typically based upon a shared characteristic, demographic, life experience or allyship. Although ERGs are formed around individuals’ common lived experiences, anyone can join any ERG! Members have opportunities to grow and develop professionally, expand their network, and help us create more inclusive and equitable solutions for those we are privileged to serve.
