UnitedHealthcare to Cease Marketing and Sales of Certain AARP-Branded Fixed-Cash Benefit Indemnity Plans
WASHINGTON (April 22, 2009) – UnitedHealthcare today announced that it will cease marketing and sales of the following AARP-branded fixed-cash benefit indemnity plans: Essential Health Insurance Plan and Essential Plus Health Insurance Plan.
No Impact on AARP-Branded Medicare Plans from UnitedHealthcare
Today’s announcement does not affect any of the AARP-branded Medicare Plans from UnitedHealthcare, which include: Medicare Supplement (AARP® Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans), Medicare Advantage (AARP® MedicareComplete® from SecureHorizons) and Medicare Part D (AARP® MedicareRx Plans).
In November 2008, UnitedHealthcare suspended marketing and sales of the entire portfolio of AARP-branded fixed-cash benefit indemnity plans. UnitedHealthcare will resume marketing of the AARP-branded Hospital Indemnity Plan, under a timetable yet to be determined.
Individuals currently enrolled in either the Essential Health Insurance Plan or the Essential Plus Health Insurance Plan will retain their coverage and we will continue to provide them with the service they have come to expect from UnitedHealthcare. Anyone currently enrolled in these plans who have questions about their coverage should call 1-800-523-5800 (TTY users call 1-800-232-7773) Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. EDT to 11 p.m. EDT and on Saturday from 9 a.m. EDT to 5 p.m. EDT.
